Family Dollar Recall: Hundreds Of Over-The-Counter Medical Items Affected
KEY POINTS
- The recall is being issued due to storage concerns
- It affects products such as Colgate toothpastes and Tylenol caplets
- Delaware, Alaska and Hawaii are not affected by the recall
Family Dollar is voluntarily recalling hundreds of over-the-counter medical products, including well-known mouthwashes, antacids, hand sanitizers and sunscreens.
The recall involves multiple brands of various medical products, according to the company announcement posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website. Some of them are Crest Anti Cavity Toothpaste, Secret Powder Fresh Invisible Solid Antiperspirant, Coppertone Waterbabies Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 and Mucinex Fastmax Cold & Flu.
Other products such as ointments, pain relief gels and lip balms are also covered by the recall. A full list of the affected products is available here.
The problem with the recalled items is that they were stored "outside of labeled temperature requirements." The company did not specify the issue that may come about as a result of the temperature concern.
"To date, Family Dollar has not received any consumer complaints or reports of illness related to this recall," the company noted.
The items included in the recall were "inadvertently shipped" to retail stores "on or around" May 1 to June 10. Delaware is not affected by the recall, as Family Dollar stores in the state did not receive any of the recalled products, according to the company. Alaska and Hawaii are also unaffected, as there are no Family Dollar stores in these states.
"This recall goes to the retail store level," the company explained. "Family Dollar has notified its affected stores asking them to check their stock immediately and to quarantine and discontinue the sale of any affected product."
Customers who have an affected product may also return it to the Family Dollar store where they bought it. Those with questions about the recall may contact the company at 844-636-7687. If they experience any adverse reactions from using an affected product, they should contact a health care provider.
Other well-known products included in the recall are Listerine mouthwash products, Vicks Vaporub, certain Purell hand sanitizers, Tylenol caplets and certain variants of Colgate toothpaste.
