‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald’ Finally Wraps Up Filming
Despite the major casting issue it faced, the production for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” has finally wrapped up filming.
The sequel to “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” announced their milestone on Twitter by posting a video of Alison Sudol, who plays Queenie Goldstein, saying “That’s a wrap!”
Even though it was a cute announcement, netizens were still debating over Johnny Depp’s involvement in the film as the villain, Gellert Grindelwald.
The actor still had several fans who expressed excitement to see him on the big screen, while many continued to react negatively to his role.
“Congrats! We can’t wait for Johnny Depp’s Grindelwald return!” a Depp fan wrote. “The fact that Johnny Depp is Grindelwald in #crimesofgrindelwald is one of the best things to happen ever. Can it be Nov 2018 already?” another added.
On the other hand, some netizens wrote: “We don’t want Johnny Depp.” An angry fan even commented, “Y’all better call it a wrap on Johnny Depp’s future in this franchise, or it’s a WRAP on me paying to watch your films.”
Whatever arguments people have over Depp’s casting, J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros. Studios have stood by the actor and decided not to have him replaced.
In a statement, Rowling even hinted that there are things that they cannot tell the public because they want to “protect the privacy of two people, both of whom have expressed a desire to get on with their lives.” Because of this, there’s an “inability to speak openly to fans about this issue.”
“Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies,” she continued.
On the flip side, people are extremely excited to see Jude Law play the young Albus Dumbledore in the franchise. When they first cast him, director David Yates has nothing but positive things to say.
“Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” will be released on Nov. 16, 2018.
