‘Fargo’ Season 3 Spoilers: ‘Halt And Catch Fire’ Star Joins Cast; What Is Scoot McNairy’s Role Next Season?
“Fargo” Season 3 has added “Halt and Catch Fire” star Scoot McNairy to its growing cast list!
“Fargo” creator Noah Hawley confirmed McNairy’s casting during a red carpet interview with TV Line at the Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 18. He didn’t disclose much about McNairy’s character, but he teased that the actor will play a recurring role in the third season of the FX anthology series.
McNairy is just the latest actor to join the “Fargo” Season 3 cast. “BrainDead” star Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been cast as Nikki Swango, who is described as “a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing. She is a woman with a plan who is focused on always being at least one move ahead of her opponents.”
Although Winstead’s role is a series-regular one, her appearance on “Fargo” Season 3 still depends on whether the shooting schedule for “BrainDead” Season 2 will conflict with the FX series. According to Den of Geek, Winstead will prioritize the CBS drama if that happens, since she plays lead character Laurel Healy.
As for the lead characters this season, “Gone Girl” star Carrie Coon has been cast to play female lead Gloria Burgle in “Fargo” Season 3. FX previously released the official description of her character, which describes Gloria as “a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics. Gloria is the chief of the Eden Valley police, and a newly divorced mother, who is struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them.”
Ewan McGregor will star opposite her and will play a pair of brothers, Emmit and Ray Stussy. According to the synopsis obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Emmit is described as “the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. A handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man, Emmit sees himself as an American success story." Meanwhile, his younger brother Ray is described as "a cautionary tale. Balding, pot-bellied, Ray is the kind of guy who peaked in high school. Now a parole officer, Ray has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt, and he blames his brother, Emmit, for his misfortunes.”
“Fargo” Season 3 has not yet been given an official premiere date, but the production on the latest installment is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year. The FX series is expected to return in the first half of 2017.
