A man in Singapore has been jailed for repeatedly raping his 15-year-old biological daughter and molesting her every week even while she was on her period.

The teenage girl, whose identity has not been revealed, was punished to stand outside her home when she resisted the horrific abuse of her 44-year-old father.

The court sentenced the man to 25 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to three charges of rape, with another 24 charges taken into consideration, reported Channel News Asia.

The father of four initially lived with his wife and three sons in his apartment while the victim stayed with an aunt, the court heard. The abuse began when the girl moved back in with her family in 2013 when she was 9 years old.

The father reportedly molested his only daughter once every week for five years until the girl was 14. Although she felt uncomfortable with her father's acts, she was scared and did not react.

The victim then ran away from home on May 11, 2018, after feeling stressed out because of her father's abuse. She returned the next day when a missing person's report was lodged on her.

The father stopped the abuse months after the incident but resumed in December 2018. When the girl complained that she was uncomfortable with his acts, the father punished her by making her stand facing the wall and locking her out of the house. The girl was made to stand outside the house until her mother came back from work. The father convinced the girl's mother that she was being punished for not doing housework.

The abuse turned into rape after the girl turned 15. She was reportedly raped at least once a month between March 2019 and June 2019. The girl did not talk about it to anyone as she was worried that her family would be broken if she did, reported news outlet The Straits Times.

The girl, who was scared to be alone with her father, stayed out after school on July 13, 2019, but was scolded by her mother for coming home late. The next day, her schoolmates noticed that she was moody and pestered her to tell them what was wrong. The girl eventually revealed the story of abuse which was then reported to the police.

Stephanie Koh, the prosecutor, told the court that the punishments had a "profound impact" on the victim. "This manipulative and victim-blaming behavior is a clear reflection of the accused's lack of remorse and his willingness to abuse his authority over the victim," Koh said.

The court described the case as "sickening" and "vile." The psychiatric report revealed that the victim suffered flashbacks and repetitive memories from the incidents.
