Father’s Day 2011 Ideas: Where to Take Your Dad
Sunday, June 19th is Father's Day.
How will you celebrate this year? Too often we worry about gifts, but the best way to honor your dad on father's day is not with a present, but a memory. Here are some ideas for where you can take the old man on his celebratory day:
Theme Parks
Theme parks have a silly reputation of being for kids only. But, what dad do you know that isn't just as psyched as the kids when he jumps off of a roller coaster. Take dad to the theme park, get him some burgers, make him get on the scariest ride there is, and the whole family is sure to have a great day.
A Ball Game
It's a Sunday in June. There must be some professional game nearby that you can take dad to. Grab some hot dogs, crack open some peanuts, let dad drink some beers, and drive him home safe when the game's over.
Rent a Fantasy Car
Who cares where you go! Get your dad the car he's always wanted and let him take it on the road for that one special day.
Golfing
While you may have choice words for dad's golf hobby every other day of the year, Father's Day is the day to encourage it and maybe even learn a bit about the game yourself. Take dad to a nice club, let him show you his Tiger Woods moves, and try not to look too bored.
A Jazz or Blues Festival
Several cities will put on Jazz or Blues festivals for father's day weekend. Check around online or in your local paper and surprise your dad with a fun afternoon of music and festivities.
Go Camping
Get dad away from home (so he won't get stuck doing any chores) and out into the wild. Grab a tent, some sleeping bags, and a cooler, and take advantage of the nice weather while spending some quality time together.
A Bike Trip
Take the bicycles out of the garage, dust them off, and go for a trip together down a nearby trail. Do your research. If it's not a loop, maybe your mother or another relative can pick you up at a set destination.
Go on a Wine Tour
If your dad is a wine connoisseur, take him on a trip to a local vineyard for some tastings. Not near wine country? Take him to the local brewery to smell some hops and sip dome draught.
BBQ in Nature
Head to your local park or a nearby National Park and cook up your dad's dream meal. Bring along a Frisbee or a ball and laze away the afternoon in nature with your pops.
Fishing
There's no better way to spend quality time with your dad than a fishing trip. Unless you're a pro, you might spend a good deal of time waiting for that elusive bite - time that you can spend catching up.
