FBI Launches Investigation After Texas ‘Trump Train’ Accused Of Intimidating Joe Biden Campaign Bus

The “Trump Train” that surrounded and followed the Biden-Harris campaign bus Friday on a Texas interstate is being investigated by the FBI. The incident involved flag-waving Trump supporters in trucks surrounding a Joe Biden campaign bus on Interstate 35 in Hays County that caused at least one collision, according to a report by the Texas Tribune.

The Biden campaign claimed the vehicles tried to run the bus off the road and tried to slow it in the middle of the highway. Law enforcement was eventually called to help get the bus to its Austin destination.

A video of the confrontation was shared online.

Trump on Saturday night tweeted support for the incident with a 26-second video.

Following the traffic incident, Tariq Thowfeek, Texas communications director of the Biden campaign, released a statement slamming the drivers who put the bus and its occupants in danger.

“Rather than engage in productive conversation about the drastically different visions that Joe Biden and Donald Trump have for our country, Trump supporters in Texas instead decided to put our staff, surrogates, supporters, and others in harm’s way,” he said in a statement Saturday.

Rep. Lloyd Doggett, a Democrat who represents Austin, accused Trump of inciting “aggressive, abusive conduct” from his supporters because of his low ratings in the polls.

“Those who fear their party is about to lose Texas resort to such desperate tactics. We have to stand up to these bullies just as we seek to protect the right of every last Texan to vote out the Bully-in-Chief,” Doggett said in a statement to the Texas Tribune.

The Tribune noted that the Texas Department of Public Safety has referred questions surrounding the Friday incident to the Austin Police Department.

Polls show a tight race in Texas, which has 38 electoral votes. Texas is considered a “must-win” state for Trump, who trails in general election polls.
