‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Plane Webisode ‘Flight 462’ To Premiere Online Night Of Season 1 Finale
Whether you liked or hated AMC’s first season of “Fear the Walking Dead,” one has to admit it provided a very nice fix for the terrible days between seasons of the network’s flagship zombie drama, “The Walking Dead.” Now it seems the “Fear” moniker will continue to provide zombie mayhem in the absence of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of the crew crew with the new canon Web special “Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462.”
As previously reported, “Flight 462” will be a short self-contained story set in the timeline of “Fear the Walking Dead,” (several weeks before Rick wakes up in the hospital in the first episode of “The Walking Dead”). As Entertainment Weekly first reported, the story will see a group of passengers at the onset of the zombie outbreak discover one of the people on the flight is infected. The short was written by L. Signorino and Mike Zunic and is directed by “Fear the Walking Dead” director Michael McDonough.
While “The Walking Dead” is no stranger to producing Web-exclusive content, “Flight 462” is going to be significantly different than previous shorts. A press release from AMC said the first part of the episode will drop online Oct. 4, the same day as the “Fear the Walking Dead” Season 1 finale. After that, those who aren’t necessarily technologically gifted will get to see the video air on TV during two commercial breaks during the Season 6 premiere of “The Walking Dead,” which debuts Oct. 11. After that, the remaining installments of the Web story will both drop online and air during commercial breaks throughout the new season of “The Walking Dead.” In total, the series will be made up of 16 parts, each less than a minute long.
As if its premiere schedule wasn’t enough to set it apart from other Web exclusives, “Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462” will introduce a character who will somehow survive the zombified flight and make his or her way to the regular cast of “Fear the Walking Dead” when it returns for Season 2. There’s no word yet on who that cast member will be, and the network is likely planning to keep that information under wraps until the story airs in full, so as not to spoil the surprise of who lives and who dies.
“ 'Flight 462' is a great extension of the world of ‘Fear’ and will engage fans across multiple platforms with another riveting story set at the start of the fall of civilization,” Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV, said in the statement. “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Dave Erickson and David Wiener on another piece of original content. Watching how they’ll bring one of these new characters to the second season of Fear will be really exciting for viewers to follow.”
Fans will have to wait until Oct. 4 to have some of the mystery surrounding “Flight 462” answered. In the meantime, they can check out the teaser photo above and prepare for the Season 1 finale of “Fear the Walking Dead.”
