A 30-year-old woman in India was arrested after she allegedly murdered her husband and dumped his body in a sack with help of her minor son, police said.

The suspect, identified as Laxmi Devi from Pitampura, near the capital city of Delhi, allegedly murdered her husband Bharat Lal, 32, after drugging him. Devi reportedly committed the crime after she was fed up with her husband's violence against her and their two children, police said, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The investigation began after the police found a body stuffed in a jute bag dumped outside a park near the victim's house on April 10. Meanwhile, Devi approached the police at the crime scene and identified it as her husband's body. She claimed Lal went missing the previous night, and she had been searching for him since then.

"The sudden arrival of the woman at the spot where the body was found made the investigating team suspicious. During questioning, some discrepancies emerged in her statement," a senior investigating officer, Usha Rangnani said. Devi eventually admitted the murder during interrogation.

Lal who was an unemployed alcoholic lived on his wife's earnings and reportedly tortured her in front of the children when she refused to give him money to buy alcohol.

Devi admitted that she bought sleeping pills from her native village on the pretext of some illness a few months back and mixed her husband's drink with the pills before strangling him to death on the night of April 9, India Today reported.

The suspect then took help from her 13-year-old son to stuff the victim's body in a jute bag and transport it to a park, about 800 meters from their home, police said.

"The woman disclosed that she had been planning his murder for nearly a year but was delaying it, as she wanted to give Bharat Lal a chance to mend his ways," an investigator said.

The police found CCTV evidence showing the woman and her son carrying the victim's body on the boy's bicycle. During a search at her house, the police found a jute bag, similar to the one in which the body was stuffed.
