Federer and Djokovic to clash in Indian Wells semis, Nadal faces Del Potro
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will meet in the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells after easy wins in the quarter-finals, while Rafael Nadal will play Juan Martin Del Potro in the other clash.
World number three Novak Djokovic defeated 18th seed Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-2 6-4 while Word number two Roger Federer progressed after seeing through fellow Swiss 6-3 6-4.
The semi-final has an added as a Djokovic victory would see the Serb overtake Federer in the World rankings. However, Federer isn't concerned about the rankings. He said, I think every match we play is always important. I just want to go out there and do well. I have not done well the last two times I have played against him but hopefully I can turn the tide.
About his win over friend and fellow-countryman Wawrinka, with whome Federer later teamed up to beat Nadal and Marc Lopez in the men's doubles semi-finals, Federer said, I expected a difficult match against Stan, we know each other so well so there is no secrets really. We are playing good doubles here and to knock him out in the singles is not a lot of fun, but I did what I had to do.
Federer faces a tough task against Australian Open champion Djokovic who extended his perfect record of the season to 16-0. Djokovic defeated Gasquet in an hour and 35 minutes to advance, and said after his game.
It's been the best period of my tennis career definitely the last three months, winning a grand slam, the Davis Cup and playing really well here on the court at Indian Wells. I want to maintain this level of performance by winning in the semi-final.
