A 32-year-old female prison guard in the U.K. was accused of secretly having sex with an inmate at her facility who was serving a life term for killing his girlfriend and infant daughter.
Lauren McIntyre, 32, appeared in court last week for her alleged misconduct. She was accused of having sex with the convicted double murderer Andrew Roberts multiple times while she was employed at HMP Isle of Wight, a prison in Newport between August and December 2018, Metro reported.
McIntyre, reportedly a mother-of-two, was accused of abusing the public’s trust by her alleged offenses that she committed willfully and without reasonable excuse or justification, according to the Daily Mail.
McIntyre allegedly knew Roberts had a phone but never reported to the authorities. She was also said to have provided Roberts with her cell phone number and sent him a picture of herself.
McIntyre is also accused of sanctioning Roberts to attack her fellow prison guard and not warning the guard that he could be subjected to an "impending" attack. In addition to having sex with Roberts, McIntyre reportedly also attempted to allow him to transfer money into her bank account.
McIntyre was granted unconditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Newport Crown Court next month.
Roberts was convicted 2003 in the gruesome murders of his partner and their eight-month-old daughter. According to Daily Mail, Roberts strangled his partner Louise L’Homme and their eight-month-old daughter, Tia, to death at their home in Rhondda in South Wales before spraying the bodies with perfume to conceal the smell of decomposition. Roberts, then 22, was arrested five days after the incident and was handed two life terms at Swansea Crown Court for what was described as the "depraved and brutal destruction" of his own family.
This comes after a former Idaho corrections officer was charged for allegedly having sex with an inmate at Idaho Maximum Security Institution in June. Miranda Ackerman, 29, was charged with felony sexual contact with an inmate and misdemeanor possessions of unlawful contraband. She was said to have met the unidentified prison inmate multiple times between Feb. 9 and Mar. 9 before resigning on Apr. 3.
