Fender Releases Billie Eilish-Designed Ukulele For $299
Billie Eilish’s latest collaboration is with guitar brand Fender. The “my future” singer designed a ukulele with the brand, and the new release involves her signature instrument.
At $299, the Billie Eilish Uke is the most expensive ukulele on Fender’s website. Their cheapest model is $69.99.
The high-end uke has a Sapele top, back, and sides with a matte black finish as well as a walnut fingerboard, white dot inlays and nickel hardware. Eilish fans will recognize Billie’s trademarked “blohsh” symbol, a lopsided stick figure, on the decals covering the front back and sides of the instrument.
Fender notes that it’s a “stage-ready” ukulele with a Fishman Kula preamp.
The uke is the first instrument the 18-year-old Grammy Award winner learned how to play.
“It's where I started writing, and where I found new ways of writing that I had never tried before,” Eilish said of the ukulele in a press release. “It inspires a different kind of writing. The rules of the ukulele are simple, and basically, if you know three chords you can play almost any song. I hope my Fender Signature ukulele inspires people to start playing, and start writing; anyone can do it.”
Fender and Eilish are recognizing the instrument's Hawaiian heritage by donating to the Aloha Mele Fund, which will give the money to nonprofits helping with coronavirus relief efforts for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities in Hawaii.
