Fifth Harmony Refused To Change Name After Camila Cabello Left Group
Although they are now a foursome, Fifth Harmony never had any doubt that they wanted to keep their group name following Camila Cabello’s exit.
During a chat with MTV News, the members of the singing group explained that keeping their group name was a decision they made together. “It was obviously a thought because it was a prevalent thing that there’s four of us not five. Regardless, we were all very united in the fact that we didn’t want to change the name,” Lauren Jauregui told MTV.

The singer hinted that others surrounding them tried to make the ladies consider a name change but they were not interested in the idea. “We felt like within ourselves, no, Fifth Harmony is the name we grew up with and we worked for and it’s our brand,” the singer continued.
“It’s who we are. It’s our whole entire moment. It’s what we spent five years on,” Jauregui added.
Dinah Jane Hansen revealed that the name was also very special to the singers for another reason. “The fans named us Fifth Harmony. They named us Fifth Harmony and now they’re the fifth member,” she stated.
On June 2, Fifth Harmony released their first single without Cabello titled “Down.” Although the ladies didn’t give away too many details about their upcoming album, they did reveal that their new music will sound similar to their previous tunes but with a twist.
“It’s definitely elevated itself throughout the years, and we’ve come to a place where we are co-writing more than half of our album. So we’re much more integrated in the process and the lyrics and the sounds,” Jauregui explained.
“It’s just more of an authentic hone in on that sound, of the Fifth Harmony sound, which I feel like is pop, R&B, mixed with urban, just rhythmic tones and having that sort of be the basis and foundation of where we go,” the singer said.
Now that they are a foursome, the group revealed that they have strong opinions on the importance of being a girl group. “Definitely knowing that everyone has their strengthens and everybody is very talented and we’re all human beings, we’re all women,” Ally Brooke Hernandez stated.
“Understanding that and knowing that we’re here to support each other and to encourage one another in this journey is something so special that we carry on to one another, and we show just respecting one another is key,” the singer added.

Cabello left the group in December 2016, after revealing that she had been unhappy for quite some time and desired to become a solo artist. Since her exit from Fifth Harmony, Cabello has collaborated with many artists and released her first solo song, “Crying in the Club,” in May.
Although she has not revealed a release date for her solo debut album, “The Hurting, The Healing, The Loving,” Cabello is hoping for a fall release.
