‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Movie Star Dakota Johnson Admits Parts Of Romance Film Are ‘Difficult To Watch’
While the world awaits the Valentine’s Day release of the highly anticipated “Fifty Shades of Grey,” its star, actress Dakota Johnson, has already viewed the Sam Taylor-Johnson masterpiece. In her February cover interview with Vogue Magazine, the 25-year-old star dished about her reason for signing on to star in the E.L. James book adaptation as lead Anastasia Steele and how she fared watching the sex-laced film.
According to Johnson, the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, she agreed to act in the future blockbuster because she considered it “different” from any of her previous projects -- such as the defunct sitcom “Ben and Kate” and the feature comedy “21 Jump Street.”
“I wanted to be involved because it’s so different and it’s an intense love story,” Johnson said. “It’s just the most insane thing to be a part of. I’ve never experienced anything like this; I don’t think anyone has. It’s terrifying and it’s exciting.”
And while Johnson, who stars alongside Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey), says fans will be pleased with the film, calling it “beautiful,” she did admit watching the BDSM scenes are burdensome. Perhaps she’s alluding to the streamy bedroom scenes between her and Dornan in the film's most recent trailer?
“I’ve never seen anything like it. But it’s confusing to the brain. I still can’t look at it objectively or wrap my head around it,” she said. “The parts of the movie that are difficult to watch were even more difficult -- and emotionally taxing -- to shoot.”
Director Taylor-Johnson also commented on Johnson’s risqué scenes. “There are tough scenes in this movie,” the filmmaker said. “Scenes where she had to be naked -- and not just in the flesh. But she was utterly fearless and brave.”
In the interview, Johnson also discussed her “dwindling anonymity” ahead of the film’s Feb. 13 U.S. debut, and her desire to move out of her hometown of Los Angeles. So where will be the “Fifty Shades” star be headed next? Despite calling movie sets “the most comforting thing in the world,” Johnson said Nashville, Tennessee, and Colorado are her ideal places to call home.
“A very large part of me would be perfectly happy living on a ranch in Colorado and having babies and chickens and horses -- which I will do anyway,” she said.
Besides a potential relocation, Johnson said she plans to spend 2015 away from the limelight and with her family. “I do a bit of press for ‘Fifty’ and then I’m going to take the rest of the year off,” she said.
I guess fans will just have a little longer than originally anticipated to see the rumored sequel, “Fifty Shades Darker,” on the big screen.
