‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Trailer ‘Too Hot For Morning TV,’ Says NBC, ‘Today’ Show To Air Shorter Version
The first official “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie trailer is set to debut on NBC’s “Today” show Thursday, but unfortunately for fans, the network has confirmed that it will not be airing the teaser in its entirety due to its risqué nature.
“TODAY will broadcast a portion of the 50 Shades of Grey movie trailer this Thursday, July 24,” NBC said in a press release issued Wednesday, the network going on to call the film’s trailer, based off the best-selling E.L. James romance novel of the same name, “too-hot-for-morning-TV.”
While some fans of the adaptation may be upset to hear about the pared-down footage, NBC is reporting that the full trailer will be released on Today.com immediately following its television premiere Thursday between 7-9 a.m. EDT.
Another reason for “Fifty Shades” fans to smile? The footage's debut will be immediately followed by actors Jamie Dornan, (Christian Grey) and Dakota Johnson’s (Anastasia Steele) first live TV interview for the film conducted by the “Today” show's Savannah Guthrie.
On Friday, the network will continue its “Fifty Shades” coverage by sharing an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the highly-anticipated film’s set. The package is also said to include on-location interviews with the film’s cast and the series author, E.L. James.
Universal released a teaser of the trailer via Beyonce’s Instagram page Saturday. James, 51, later released a widescreen version of the same footage.
On Tuesday, an audio recording of the first “Fifty Shades” radio commercial hit the web, the ad showcasing Dornan, a native Irishman’s, American accent for the first time. “I’m incapable of leaving you now,” Dornan, 32, can be heard saying in the clip, his on-screen lover, Johnson, 24, responding, “Then don’t.”
“Fifty Shades of Grey” follows the tale of a fictional billionaire, Christian Grey, a man with an affinity for practicing BDSM and his lover, Anastasia “Ana” Steele. The film, rumored to be aiming for an R-rating, is scheduled to hit theaters February 13, 2015.
