Firefighters fatally shot a dog for attacking another canine at an apartment fire scene in Franklin Township, Ohio, on Thursday.

Firefighters responded to the scene after getting reports of light smoke coming from a unit of an apartment complex Thursday afternoon. When they opened the door to the apartment, a large dog ran out of the door. The canine then knocked over a child before attacking a smaller canine. In order to stop the attack, the firefighters fatally shot the large dog.

Speaking about the blaze, the firefighters said it was stemmed from electrical malfunction and they managed to contain it before it spread to other units of the apartment. The occupants of the unit where the fire broke out were not at home when the incident took place.

All the occupants of the apartment complex, except one of the units where the broke out, were allowed to return inside once the blaze was put off. Nobody was injured in the incident.

The incident comes days after police shot and killed a dog after the canine attacked three people in Fort Madison, Iowa. Police responded to a home after receiving reports of a dog attack. The responding officers found a male brown boxer attacking a man in the front yard of the home. In order to stop the attack, the responding officers had to fatally shoot the canine.

While the first responders treated the man at the scene, the officers found another man lying in the doorway of the home after being attacked by the dog. The man, identified as Robert Joseph Quick, asked the officers to first check on his 5-year-old daughter who was bitten in the face by the dog. All the victims were rushed to a hospital where Quick succumbed to injuries. Police said the canine did not belong to any of the victims.
