Margot Robbie is larger than life in the first trailer for "Barbie."

Warner Bros. dropped the first teaser trailer for Greta Gerwig's highly-anticipated movie about the iconic doll Friday, giving fans a glimpse of Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken.

The trailer began with a history lesson about dolls, with the narrator saying that "the dolls were always and forever baby dolls" until Barbie came along.

The clip then showed Robbie as Barbie, who smiles at the little girls as she poses in a black-and-white striped swimsuit, which was the ensemble worn by the very first Barbie doll, Entertainment Tonight noted.

The teaser cut to quick snippets of Gosling and the rest of the cast members, including America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Emerald Fennell, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Hari Nef, Ariana Greenblatt, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Rhea Pearlman, Will Ferrell and more.

Twitter users praised the trailer and expressed excitement over the upcoming movie.

"The audacity to do this is pure genius and I love it," one commented. Another added, "A director that can't miss. I'm going to love it. I hope it's not a musical so I can get my wife to watch it."

"To say I'm excited is an understatement," a third fan wrote.

"This is the greatest movie trailer of all time," a fourth user opined.

Robbie, along with the rest of the cast, has been tight-lipped about the plot of the movie. The actress, who is also a producer of the film, didn't want to give much away because she knew it could end up "blowing into a headline."

In an interview with WSJ. Magazine, published on Nov. 1, Robbie called Barbie "the child" archetype. She also compared the hype surrounding the movie to her 2018 biopic "I, Tonya," in which she portrayed the controversial former ice skater Tonya Harding.

"That's why 'I, Tonya' intrigued us so much—because people had such an immediate and strong reaction to the name Tonya Harding," Robbie said. "It's kind of amazing to begin at a place like that."

Robbie has been attached to the live-action project since 2019. However, it was only in 2021 that Gosling was hired to join her as her on-screen love interest, Ken.

"Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child's journey to self-discovery," Robbie said in a 2019 press release, E! News reported. "Over the brand's almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president. I'm so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide."

"Barbie" hits theaters on July 21, 2023.
