KEY POINTS

  • "FNAF: Security Breach" will feature a large and fully-explorable environment
  • The game will star two new characters, Gregory and Vanessa
  • "Security Breach" will showcase new and updated animatronics

The recently-concluded State of Play presentation by Sony revealed a handful of new games that are coming to both the PS4 and PS5. While the games that did get revealed weren’t what fans expected, the new trailer for “Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach” was definitely welcome.

The “Five Nights At Freddy’s” series (or simply “FNAF”) was an internet sensation that took the gaming community by storm in the mid-2010s. Players took the role of a security guard working the night shift in the eponymous Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria that houses possessed animatronics.

“FNAF: Security Breach” takes the lore of the previous series entries into a new game that its devs have described as the “most ambitious Five Nights At Freddy’s game yet.”

The game features a stark departure from the original ones’ mechanics. Instead of being locked inside a security room in a small pizzeria, players will now have full control over their character’s movements in order to explore a massive complex.

“What you are about to see barely scratches the surface of the horror you will experience when you step out of the security office and explore the darkened hallways, arcades and Fazbear attractions.” Steel Wool Games co-founder and creative director Jason Topolski said in a post on the PS Blog.

“FNAF: Security Breach” also features new characters. This time, gamers will be playing as Gregory, a small boy who is stuck in the new Mega Pizza Plex. He will be joined by Vanessa, a female security guard who is trying to help Gregory escape the facility.

It doesn’t seem like players will be able to control Vanessa as one clip from the latest trailer shows Gregory is trying to hide from her instead.

Along with the human characters are the new “Glamrock” series of animatronics, including an updated version of Freddy and Chica from the original game. Vanny, a character who briefly appeared in “FNAF: Help Wanted,” will also have a more prominent role this time around.

Steel Wool Games hasn’t officially announced a release date for “FNAF: Security Breach” yet, but fans can expect it to arrive sometime this year for the PS4, PS5 and PC.
