‘The Flash’ Season 3 Spoilers: David Dastmalchian ‘Excited’ To Play Abra Kadabra On The CW Series
David Dastmalchian can’t wait to play DC villain Abra Kadabra in Season 3 of “The Flash.”
A few hours after DCComics.com broke the news of his casting, Dastmalchian took to Twitter to express his excitement about his new role. See his tweets below:
Dastmalchian will make his debut appearance as Abra Kadabra later this season. Dastmalchian’s version of the character is described as a criminal from a distant future whose advanced technological powers seem like magic. The time-traveling baddie also holds a secret that The Flash (Grant Gustin) will stop at nothing to discover.
In the comics, Abra Kadabra is a magician from the 64th Century who travels back to the present only to find himself repetitively at odds with the Scarlet Speedster. While Abra Kadabra is a stage magician, the “magic” he uses to impress his audiences and fight The Flash is actually 64th Century tech. Although he has no actual magical powers, there’s one notable storyline in the comics, in which he temporarily gains powers through a deal he made with the Green Lantern villain Neron.
Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, Abra Kadabra first appeared in “The Flash” #128 back in 1962.
Although Dastmalchian is the first actor to play a live-action Abra Kadabra, Jeff Bennett has voiced the character on Cartoon Network’s animated series “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” and “Young Justice.” Abra Kadabra has also a non-voiced cameo appearance in “Justice League Unlimited.”
Dastmalchian is no stranger to the DC Comics world. Just this January, the 32-year-old actor made his debut appearance as Jerome acolyte Dwight Pollard on FOX’s “Gotham.” He also played as one of Joker’s thugs in Christopher Nolan’s 2008 superhero crime thriller “The Dark Knight.”
