‘The Flash’ Season 3 Spoilers: What Is Iris West’s Profession In ‘Flashpoint’ Story?
When “The Flash” visited Earth-2 last season, a lot of fans were surprised to find out that Earth-2 Iris West (Candice Patton) is actually a cop. Now that the show is adapting DC Comics’ “Flashpoint” for Season 3, are viewers going to meet a new incarnation of Iris excelling in a wholly different profession?
Executive producer Todd Helbing revealed to TVLine that just like in Earth-1 and in the main timeline, Iris in the “Flashpoint” story is still working in the field of journalism.
“She is still a journalist,” Todd said, “but she’s doing something else as well.”
In the main timeline, Iris works at the Central City Picture News, where she is usually tasked to cover news related to The Flash (Grant Gustin).
“One thing about Iris is she’s always Iris. She’s always a constant,” added Aaron Helbing. “Just like on Earth-2, she was a cop, but she’s still married to Barry. There always and still is a Barry/Iris dynamic, but it’s slightly different.”
In the "Flashpoint" story — as revealed in the trailer for Season 3 — Barry never grew up with Iris because both of his parents are alive in this altered reality. Despite that, Todd said during the show's Comic-Con panel last July that “Barry and Iris will ultimately find each other” just like in any timeline.
In fact, Patton and Gustin have already been spotted filming two different kissing scenes since the production on Season 3 started in Vancouver.
Earlier this month, the pair was photographed filming a kissing scene at the Vancouver seawall in False Creek. According to YVRShoots, the duo did the scene over and over again, and was seen dancing and laughing in between takes.
In July, YVRShoots also spotted the two filming a kissing scene at Cambie Village -- a community in Vancouver where scenes outside the West's residence are being filmed.
"The Flash" season 3 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
