“The Flash” star Candice Patton revealed that Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Patton) won’t easily fall back into near-marital bliss when he finally gets out of the Speed Force in Season 4.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Patton said that Barry and Iris have to resolve some issues between them before they tie the knot. “There’s going to be some trust issues,” Patton said of what viewers can expect from Barry and Iris’ relationship next season. “He left and didn’t really ask her or discuss it with her. He just kind of does things and comes back and says, ‘I hope you’re okay with that.’ They’re going to have to really work on their relationship before they actually tie the knot. … There’s going to be some work that needs to be done before they actually put rings on each other’s fingers.”

Patton shared the same thing during a recent chat with TV Guide. “They have communication issue,” the 29-year-old actress said when asked where Barry and Iris’ love story picks up in Season 4. “I think we’re gonna try and see them work through those.”

At the end of the Season 3 finale, Central City was hit by a speed storm caused by the instability in the Speed Force after Jay (John Wesley Shipp) was freed from it. As Team Flash tried to figure out what to do, the Speed Force — appearing as Barry’s mom Nora (Michelle Harrison) — suddenly appeared before them and invited Barry to fill the void. Iris and the rest of the team didn’t want Barry to go, but he realized that this was his penance for causing all of the trouble, so he joined “Nora” into the Speed Force, ending the speed storm.

Although Barry voluntarily locked himself up in the Speed Force, the team — as seen in the Season 4 trailer — is forced to find a way to get Barry back as soon as possible when what appears to be a Samuroid threatens to wreak havoc in Central City.

“The Flash” Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
