‘The Flash’ Spoilers: How Will Julian’s Absence Be Addressed In Season 4?
Fans won’t have to wait that long to find out how Julian’s (Tom Felton) absence will be explained in Season 4 of CW’s “The Flash.”
In a recent interview with TVLine, executive producer Todd Helbing said that the reason behind Julian’s departure from Central City will be revealed early in the new season. “You’ll see pretty quickly — there’s a reason why he’s no longer with the team,” Helbing said.
When asked if viewers have already seen the last of Julian, Helbing said that there’s always a possibility for Felton to reprise his role in the future. “There’s always the chance that we can see anybody on this show return,” Helbing said. “We’ve had a lot of characters come and go for various reasons, and I don’t think this will be any different.”
Series star Danielle Panabaker told Digital Spy earlier this month that Julian’s absence in Season 4 is “a loss for the show and for Team Flash.” However, the actress admitted that she doesn’t think her character, Caitlin, will feel Julian’s (Felton) absence “as deeply as she felt Ronnie’s (Robbie Amell) absence” before. “Here’s the one thing I will say about Caitlin's relationship with Julian last year — I think he was more into her than she was into him,” Panabaker explained.
Felton joined “The Flash” as a series regular in Season 3. The actor made his debut appearance as Julian in Season 3, episode 2, in which he was introduced as Barry’s (Grant Gustin) fellow CSI for the Central City Police Department.
Later in the season, it was revealed that Felton was actually an archaeologist who made an expedition in the Indus Valley to find the Philosopher’s Stone. After retrieving the stone, Julian woke up in his hotel room with all members of his expedition dead. He then ran off to Central City while unknowingly becoming Savitar’s (also played by Gustin) underling, Alchemy. After being freed from Savitar’s control, Julian joined Team Flash and grew close to Caitlin.
At some point last season, it was revealed that Julian was born to a wealthy family in England and was meant to inherit a large sum of money. Given his status as heir, it’s possible that Julian flew back to his birthplace sometime after the events of the Season 3 finale.
“The Flash” Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
