Grant Gustin reacted to Hartley Sawyer’s controversial tweets after the latter was fired from their show “The Flash.”

Gustin shared a message from “The Flash” showrunner Eric Wallace on his Instagram account. He also expressed his personal feelings about Sawyer’s racist and misogynist tweets.

“I don’t have much to add because Eric’s thoughts are stated so eloquently and powerfully,” he wrote. “I will say I was shocked, saddened and angry when I saw the tweets. Words matter.”

Meanwhile, many were not happy with Gustin’s move because they felt that by slamming Sawyer, he is supporting “cancel culture.”

“Grant I'm disappointed in you allowing yourself to be part of the cancel Culture. Those tweets were in the past, Hartley has grown he shouldn't be judged on his past. A huge mistake and the show will suffer,” sarahlou2510 commented.

“This is just james gunn all over again, digging up past tweets to cause trouble. And no i dont condone them but its in the past,” brogan659 added.

Another user from Twitter didn’t approve of the network’s decision to fire Sawyer because he already apologized on May 30. The same online user wrote, “There is no forgiveness in 2020.” A different netizen agreed and wrote that the cast and crew allowed “cancel culture” to win by not standing by Sawyer.

Meanwhile, some believed that it was just right to axe Sawyer from the show because he was already an adult when he wrote the tweets.

“Oh well he was 29 & wrote these tweets he knew what he was doing,” insigniakid commented.

Sawyer already issued a statement on Instagram to apologize for his racist and misogynist tweets years ago. His messages were very disturbing that The CW, Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions and showrunner Eric Wallace all agreed to axe him from “The Flash.”

“I regret them deeply. This was not acceptable behavior,” he wrote.

“I am incredibly sorry, ashamed and disappointed in myself for my ignorance back then. I want to be very clear: this is not reflective of what I think or who I am now.”
