Flavor Flav Attacked At Las Vegas Casino Over Mom Insults, Police Say

The man who turned clocks into jewelry found himself in a bit of trouble on Tuesday, TMZ reported. According to police sources, musician, reality TV star and all around hype man Flavor Flav was allegedly attacked by a man named Ugandi Howard in Las Vegas, with the 58-year-old Flav suffering injuries during the ordeal.

According to TMZ, Howard took the first swing at Flav when the latter allegedly said something untoward about the former’s mother. Flav told police he took a punch to the face and went to the ground after pulling a muscle, at which point Howard began kicking him. Howard was cited for battery while Flav was examined at a hospital, but he did not sustain any serious injuries.

TMZ’s police sources said Howard can be seen throwing the first punch on surveillance camera footage.

Flav (born William Drayton, Jr.) reportedly has a net worth of $3 million. A veritable renaissance man, he rose to stardom as the chief hype man of the Long Island rap group Public Enemy. He could often be heard yelling his own stage name or his “yeah boy!” catch phrase during Public Enemy songs.

Often seen sporting some combination of a Viking helmet and a full-sized wall clock on a necklace, Flav transitioned to reality television stardom as part of VH1’s reality empire during the early 2000’s. His stint in the third season of “The Surreal Life” gave way to “Strange Love,” a short-lived series about his relationship with fellow “Surreal Life” alum Brigitte Nielsen.

That then directly fed into “Flavor of Love,” a show that could be summed up as “The Bachelor,” but with the end goal of finding love for Flavor Flav. After three seasons, that show ended with Flav marrying none of the contestants, but VH1 parlayed its success into several other spin-offs.

Flav has seen legal trouble in the recent past, including a 2015 incident in which he was arrested in Las Vegas for allegedly driving under the influence. His Twitter account did send out this inspirational missive on the morning of the attack.
