Anthony Todt has copped to murdering his wife, three children and the family pet after four bodies were found on Monday inside a home in Florida in a community outside on the edge of Disney World.
The 45-year-old father and husband was charged with four counts of murder in the deaths of his 42-year-old wife, Megan, and Alex, Tyler and Zoe. The children were 13, 11 and 4 years old. He also faces one count of cruel animal treatment in the killing of their dog, Breezy.
Sheriff Russ Gibson told the media the victims appeared to have died sometime toward the end of December according to the evidence and the statements of the suspect.
He would not reveal the causes of death, though, until the investigation has been completed.
The police took Todt into custody at 9 am on Monday while assisting federal agents in serving him with an unrelated arrest warrant. It was inside the house that deputies found the bodies of Megan and the three children.
Authorities admitted that an out of state family member asked for a wellness check on the family on December 29, after failing to hear from them for two days.
The deputies confirmed they checked the home during the time of the request but soon left, considering they thought no one was home, and there was nothing to warrant suspicion to justify a search.
Last Wednesday, some relatives took to social media to report the Todt family as missing. They even created a Facebook group that grew to a level of 2500 members. The police maintain, though, that no missing person reports were filed for the family.
The family had recently moved from Colchester in Connecticut to Celebration, Florida. They had been living in Florida for two years, and court documents show a total of 11,221 dollars was owed for December and January rents at the North Village home.
One of the neighbors, Lori Leighton, said that it was a tragedy and the community is mourning the loss.
The police added that Todt was taken to the hospital after taking pills and making comments that he would harm himself. He was pictured in a white jumpsuit after his release from the hospital and transit to jail.
Anthony had run two physical therapy businesses in Connecticut, including Performance Edge Sports. The state claimed though that his credentials expired in September after a failure to renew them.
The police added that while Megan and the three children lived in Florida, Todt would work at his Connecticut practice during the week and fly to be with his family on the weekends.
