Florida Man Calls 911 After Allegedly Shooting, Killing Wife And 2 Adult Children
A 57-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly shooting his wife and two adult children multiple times inside their Florida home.
Deputies went to a residence in Callahan after receiving a call from William Broyles on Wednesday morning. The man called 911 and told the operator that he shot his wife and two children. Broyles was lying in the driveway waiting for them when officers arrived.
They found three people with gunshot wounds inside the house.
Broyles allegedly shot his 57-year-old wife, Candace, in the living room of their home Wednesday early morning. He shot his daughter, Cora, 27, multiple times in her bedroom. The man then broke open the bedroom door of his son, 28-year-old Aaron, and shot him. Broyles got another gun to shoot his son again, Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said in a news conference.
"Later on he told us that he shot each victim multiple times, just to make sure they didn't suffer," Leeper said to WJXT.
Investigators said the suspect had no history of domestic violence or anger issues.
"It doesn't make sense when you look at the whole circumstance of why we believe it happened — it's just a senseless act. When he was asked why he didn't just shoot himself, he said he was too scared to do that, which is crazy considering what he just did," Leeper said, NBC News reported.
Broyles has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder. He appeared in front of a judge Thursday morning in a green smock used for inmates under suicide watch. Broyles is being held without bond and is set to appear again in court on Dec. 21.
Broyles was the director of music at Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church.
"We mourn this devastating loss to the church, Bill's remaining family and the larger community. We ask that you would hold the members of the Broyles family, our church family and Bill himself in your prayers regarding this tragedy," the church said in a statement.
