Florida Man Sets Fire To Boss's Future Home Because 'Spirits' Told Him To
St. Petersburg, Florida -- A man in Florida was charged for allegedly setting his boss’s future house on fire.
The employee, who was caught on camera in the area, claimed he committed the crime not because he was upset with his boss, but because “spirits” told him to do so.
Thanh Ha, 54, was arrested Wednesday for starting a fire in the partially constructed house in St. Petersburg, according to the New York Post.
Cops found multiple surveillance cameras in the area that captured Ha making his way on his bicycle towards the house in question just before noon on May 3. The accused man was filmed chaining his bike up to a stop sign before entering the house.
Ha tried to cover his face with his shirt, the arrest documents said.
The man once again appeared in surveillance footage about five minutes after he entered the house. Ha was captured running outside the home, unlocking his bicycle, and then fleeing from the scene, according to WFLA News Channel 8.
Investigators spoke to Ha’s boss, who was a prospective buyer of the under-construction residence. They were able to identify the suspect in the surveillance footage as one of their employees, the arrest documents said.
When interrogated by the cops, Ha admitted to the crime and said he had nothing against the employer, claiming that he started the fire “because ‘spirits’ told him to,” officers wrote in the arrest document.
The man was charged with second-degree arson and is held on a bond of $10,000.
An unrelated incident was reported earlier this year after a man in India set himself on fire because of an altercation with his boss. The employee was humiliated when his supervisor asked him to send “his wife for a night” after he requested a work transfer. The man doused himself in diesel and lit himself on fire outside the supervisor’s house. He later died of his injuries.
