- A newly-released body camera footage showed the incident
A drunk woman was caught on video riding away on a motorized luggage bag from a gate at the Orlando International Airport in Florida after she was denied boarding on an airplane.
The incident led to a police officer chasing the woman on a bicycle, the video showed.
The video, recently obtained by Clickorlando, showed the officer having a conversation with the woman at the security screening point. The woman, identified as 32-year-old Chelsea Alston, was then seen leaving the place on a scooter-like vehicle mounted to her luggage.
The incident allegedly took place in April 2021 when a Southwest Airlines gate agent refused to let Alston board because she was in an inebriated state. Alston had claimed to have downed two pegs before boarding the airline.
"I’m not that intoxicated," the woman is heard saying in the video as she is seen leaving the scene.
The video then shows the officer catching up to her at the airport's exit corridor, and apparently trying to coax her to surrender; however, she moves further away.
"We’re going to have a bike pursuing a suitcase in a minute," the deputy is heard saying in the video.
The officer, identified as Andrew Mamone by Swift Telecast, was seen chasing after Alston after she stuck out her middle finger at him, and cursed him.
"Oh man, that thing kind of goes fast," the officer says while he continues to chase her. "Think I’m faster but."
Mamone catches up with the woman at the airport's tram, and asks her to leave the area.
The video ends with the officers grabbing hold of Alston, escorting her to a patrol vehicle waiting outside the airport, and sliding her inside. The woman was accused of battering the police officer, causing more than $1,000 in damage to his patrol car and defecating in the backseat, WIXX 101 reported. Alston allegedly also spat at an arresting officer when he ordered her to slide into the vehicle.
She has pled not guilty to charges of battering a police officer and causing the damages to his patrol car. Alston was later released from the Orange County jail on a $13,500 bond, Clickorlando reported, citing jail records.
