A Florida Police officer has been accused of aggressively stalking his ex-girlfriend using her home monitoring system.
Officer Bryan Broehm with the Palm Beach Gardens Police allegedly started stalking the woman after their relationship ended in July due to his toxic behavior.
The victim met Broehm in the early 2000s while they worked together at Mount Dora Police Department. The couple later connected again and rekindled their relationship, but it turned sour toward the end of the summer.
"There were some very strange controlling behaviors that started taking place. Very jealous, very rage-filled response for just no reason," the woman told WPEC. "He used door dash delivery drivers to stalk me. And tell him information about me when I wouldn’t respond to his contact and when I had blocked him," the woman said.
Earlier, the woman had given Broehm access to her home monitoring system as a precaution because she suffers from several medical disabilities. She said that she told Broehm to only use the system in case of an emergency.
Broehm, however, had other plans. He allegedly set off the system’s alarm function whenever the victim did not respond to his texts or calls. Detectives also found several images of the victim’s home in Broehm’s iCloud account.
The woman eventually removed Broehm from her account when he started abusing the system. Since his access was revoked, Broehm had tried to get into the system at least three times. Each time the system documented it as a fraudulent attempt, according to the affidavit obtained by WFLA.
After the couple broke up, the accused used several applications to mask his number when he contacted the victim. He then used a fake username on the e-commerce website, Mercari and asked the victim for her personal information while pretending to be a buyer.
Every time Broehm contacted the woman, she said she told him that he was stalking her and she did not want to talk to him. He admitted to his behavior in a text and said he is doing it because he is worried about her health.
According to the victim, Broehm was under investigation at the Mount Dora Police Department. "He resigned before he was fired," the victim said to WPEC. "That didn’t put anything in his personnel file and he was able to go on into another department with no bad history and it looked like he moved," the woman revealed.
Broehm has been arrested and charged with one count of aggravated stalking and four counts of cyberstalking. He has been put on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the case by the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department.
Police believe there could be other victims in the case. "Through this investigation, by and through employment records, search warrants, and direct testimony, it is apparent that this behavior exhibited by the suspect is not uncommon or out of character, and a behavior pattern exists covering many years with various women that he has dated," the affidavit said according to WPBF.
The case is still being investigated.
