A former Florida teacher was arrested Monday for having sexual relationship with her son’s 15-year-old friend for over a year.

According to the arrest report, 40-year-old Susan Weddle used to work as a special education teacher at Escambia County School District. Investigation into the case began last month when a witness informed the guidance counselor about discovering explicit text messages between Weddle and the teen following which the counselor reported it to the Department of Children and Families.

During investigation, a witness, who was hired to clean Weddle’s home, told the school district that he saw the duo kissing and that the teen had shown him explicit photos and videos of the accused on his phone. The teen was then interrogated by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office investigators during which he said he was in a sexual relationship with the accused for over a year and that they had sex “several hundred times.”

Recalling the first time the two had sex, the teen said he went to Weddle’s home along with her son after a party. He was drunk and tried to persuade the accused to have sex with him. Though initially reluctant, she eventually gave in. In the next one year, the accused gifted the teen several things including an iPhone.

“Weddle was his first and only sexual partner, and he believed himself to be in love with her,” the report stated.

Weddle was taken into custody and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior and sexual assault Monday. She was held at the Escambia County Jail with her bond set at $150,000.

Meanwhile, Escambia County School District Superintendent Malcolm Thomas said the accused resigned Monday.

“We will not have any tolerance for a teacher that crosses that line. Allegations of crossing the line sexually with a student, are some of the most serious allegations that a teacher can face,” he said. Weddle was expected to appear in court on Dec. 26.
