A Florida woman has reportedly gone missing after meeting with her ex-partner to pick up her daughter, the authorities said.
Cassie Carli, 37, was last seen Sunday evening at Florida's Navarre Beach, west of Tallahassee, where she was meeting her former partner and their 4-year-old daughter, Saylor. The girl's father was identified as Marcus Spanevelo, ABC 27 reported.
Carli had visited Navarre Beach between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET, and her car was found two days later nearby at Juana’s Boat Ramp on Tuesday morning, WTXL-TV reported.
Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that Carli's daughter was found safe with her father in Birmingham, Alabama, the Pensacola News-Journal reported.
Carli's case was being treated as that of an endangered person ever since her father reported her missing Monday.
Sam Porter, a friend of Carli's, told WEAR-TV on Tuesday that about three hours after handing over the child, Carli's father had received a message from her stating she was having car and phone trouble. No one had heard from her since.
Porter said Spanevelo told her father he had dropped off Carli at Porter's place, which the former claimed wasn't true, according to WTXL-TV.
The police continue to search the Navarre Beach area in hopes of locating Carli, but in vain. The authorities, however, have not released any other details about the missing woman.
Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said during a press conference Thursday that Carli was still missing, despite the best efforts by 10 detectives to locate her. He declined to comment on what he believed happened to Carli.
"I'm not going to really comment on what I believe. It doesn't really matter what I believe," Johnson said. "I mean the evidence is what we go on, and right now, we don't have enough evidence to determine if she is alive or deceased."
A candlelight vigil took place Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the site of Carli's disappearance. "I am very hopeful. Cassie is a fighter," Porter told WTXL-TV. "There are a lot of prayers going up for Cassie right now."
