  • McGregor was more accurate than Pacquiao in Mayweather fight
  • Pacquiao vs. McGregor could generate $250 million

Numbers from Floyd Mayweather fights prove that UFC star Conor McGregor could beat Manny Pacquiao in a boxing match.

Ever since McGregor made a surprising announcement that he wants to return to the ring and face the two top pay-per-view fighters in Mayweather and Pacquiao, predictions from boxing and MMA personalities have been non-stop. Ahead of his UFC comeback fight against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, McGregor insisted that negotiations were once put in place for a blockbuster clash with the Filipino legend. And after his impressive UFC win, “The Notorious” is highly expected to do a pro boxing match next.

Despite not being successful in his pro boxing debut, McGregor’s fans contend that the Irishman has a chance against Pacquiao. And the claim wasn’t biased after all.

CompuBox stats from Mayweather fight revealed that McGregor connected a total of 111 punches on the undefeated champ. Evidently, McGregor has been more aggressive and accurate compared to Pacquiao who landed only 81 punches on Mayweather.

Not only did McGregor land 30 more punches but he also did it in 10 rounds, two fewer rounds than the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight which ended in 12 rounds.

The said comparison of punches landed concluded the idea that the UFC star indeed has a chance against the boxing legend. However, it will be remembered that after the fight, Pacquiao accused Mayweather of ducking him throughout the fight by “moving around the ring the entire fight,” PhilBoxing.com reported.

"He’s moving around. It’s not easy to throw punches when he’s moving around so much," Pacquiao said of Mayweather. It should also be taken to consideration that Pacquiao was reportedly suffering from a shoulder injury during the fight.

As for Mayweather, he acknowledged the greatness of Pacquiao as a seasoned boxer but insisted that he knew how to beat an aggressive fighter like “Pac-Man.”

“As long as I moved on the outside, I was able to stay away from those. He’s a really smart fighter. My dad wanted me to do more, but I had to take my time. Because Manny Pacquiao is a competitor, and he’s extremely dangerous," Mayweather commented of Pacquiao.

Pacquiao vs. McGregor is viewed to come into fruition soon. Gareth A. Davies, a boxing columnist for The Telegraph who also presents for talkSport and BT Sport, believes that a Pacquiao vs. McGregor fight is "viable" this year. He also estimated that the said blockbuster fight between two combat sports legends could generate a whopping $250 million.
