Floyd Mayweather’s comeback has already been plagued with issues but likely to be matched against a lightweight fighter from the UFC.

The undefeated American boxing champ Mayweather has announced his return in combat sports in 2020. Ahead of his highly anticipated comeback, “Money” is already bound to deal with certain issues especially with regards to who his opponent will be.

Mayweather’s announcement led betting oddsmakers to hold wagers on several possibilities for his return . The list includes MMA crossovers with the UFC and ONE Championship. However, based on UFC legend Chael Sonnen, who claims that he has knowledge about how Mayweather pick his opponents, “weight class” is really an issue for the returning champ.

In a recent video on his YouTube Channel, Sonnen recalled his experiences with Mayweather. According to Sonnen, Mayweather has a lot of demands and rules in picking his opponent. Looking back at the Conor McGregor fight, Mayweather apparently asked team McGregor to agree with the type of gloves they will be using in their match. But more importantly, Sonnen emphasized that Mayweather is really strict when it comes to weight classes.

“There’s a lot of rules that matter to Floyd. Right, wrong or different, they matter to Floyd,” Sonnen stated.

“So when you’re talking about a possible opponent for Floyd, make sure that you understand you just don’t throw out what you think is gonna be a big fight. Make sure you pick a guy that can meet the first of the criteria of team Mayweather, which is 153 lbs (lightweight division of the UFC),” Sonnen claimed.

Apart from the weight class issues, Mayweather’s father Floyd Sr. also had something to say about his son’s return. In a recent talk with Fight Hub TV, Floyd Sr. slammed the possibility of his son doing MMA, specifically with the UFC.

“I don’t want (it), it ain’t the same. It’s not the same, I’m just saying,” Floyd Sr. said about Mayweather being in talks with UFC president Dana White.

“You got things that Floyd can do, a lot of other things other than (MMA) and they said he was saying something about getting into that, what that thing called? It better not be the MMA,” Floyd Sr. continued.

The elder Mayweather is very positive that his son will not fight for the UFC. In fact, he was even confident that Mayweather Jr. wouldn’t make a deal with White and if things go the opposite way for him, he’ll “take over.”

“You don’t think Floyd would take nothing like that? I don’t think he’d take it either because I’d go in there and whoop Dana White! F—k yeah I will. I’d whoop the sh-t out of him,” Floyd Sr. exclaimed.

“Even though Floyd is a grown man, I’d be the grown one that’d take over that. Sure will,” Floyd Sr. added.
