Floyd Mayweather Wins $1.8 Million Bet on Clippers-Grizzlies Game
Boxer Floyd Mayweather hit it big on Sunday night after betting $1.8 million on the Los Angeles Clippers against the Memphis Grizzlies, according to a report.
Twitter user Incarceratedbob, who is known in the Las Vegas gambling circles, tweeted out that Mayweather had spread his $1.8 million on the Clippers getting six points at seven different sports books.
For the majority of the game it looked as if Mayweather was about to take a substantial hit to his bank account, but the Clippers improbably came back from down 24 points in the fourth quarter to stun the Grizzlies for the win.
The Clippers were down 24 points with less than eight minutes to go before rattling off a 26-1 run to get the road victory.
This isn't the first time that Mayweather has put a substantial amount of money down on a specific game. He reportedly bet $1 million against Tim Tebow's Denver Broncos against the New England Patriots in the playoffs and won $900,000 off a New Jersey Nets' win over the Knicks.
I've won a lot of money on games, I've lost a good piece of money on games, Mayweather told MLive.com. But at the end of the day, some of the games that they're talking about are rumors they put out there, that are false. In sports, you win and you lose, but the main thing is you have to win more than you lose.
A $50,000 bet, or a $100,000 bet, that's a normal bet, he said. I don't really get like, into, 'Oh, I won $100,000,' at all. Once you've been involved with it for so long, if you lose a couple hundred (thousand), you'll be like, 'OK, let me wait for the right pick -- the right, right pick -- and I'll get a hundred from that.' Then wait for another right pick. Win a couple hundred, then you're up. It's about having more ups than downs.
Mayweather is currently training to fight Miguel Cotto on May 5th.
