Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is devastated over the loss of a close friend who died by suicide at his Las Vegas condominium on Monday.
Lindenwood University football star Jarrett Johnson, a relative of the 45-year-old former boxer's girlfriend, Jamie Lynn, was reportedly found dead on the property by his unidentified friend in the afternoon of Aug. 22. While the friend had immediately called for help, Johnson was already dead when the police arrived. He was 24, TMZ reported.
Unnamed sources alleged that Johnson died by hanging but was unclear if he was residing on the Las Vegas property at that time since he also had other addresses within the city.
Mayweather and Johnson reportedly had a close relationship that they "posed for pictures together" over the years and traveled across the country, according to TMZ.
The boxing legend has yet to make an official statement regarding the incident.
Johnson was a rising star in the football league, where he was an all-conference quarterback during his high school years and earned the title award of Southeast Missouri All-Region Athlete of the Year. He reportedly took on different positions while playing for the Lindenwood Lions team of the university in St. Charles, Missouri.
To pay homage to the late football player, the Lindenwood football team shared a photo of Johnson on Twitter with the caption, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of former Lion Jarrett Johnson in this difficult time. Once a Lion, Always a Lion."
The post received prayers and condolences from social media users, family, and friends when the tragic news broke.
"One of the blessings of my job is getting to know each player I've coached. I'll never forget JJ's smile and the love that was in his heart," one user wrote.
"I will forever love you. I'll forever miss getting in trouble at family functions with you," another user, who seemed to be a relative of the deceased, added.
Sadly, before Johnson's demise, his family had been mourning the death of his brother, Justice, who got killed in 2019 at only 18 years old. Justice reportedly died of a gunshot wound, but the preparator has yet to be identified.
