Flu vaccinations suspended for children under five
The Western Australian government has suspended all flu shots for children under five as it examines the increase in admissions to Prince Margaret Hospital in Perth.
Kim Hames, the Health Minister said a total of 45 children have been hospitalized suffering from elevated temperatures and febrile convulsions following receiving the flu shots.
The program will be suspended until the department completes its full investigation, said Dr Hames.
He also advised parents who have had their children vaccinated to take precautions.
If it's longer than 12 hours ago then there is no risk, he explained.
But if it's in the last 12 hours they should make sure that they give their child paracetamol and then take every effort to make sure that the temperature of their child is settled.
