Apple has been known to come up with various innovations to its iPhone line although critics feel that they are still far off when compared to their competitors. Regardless, the Cupertino company remains one of the most demanded mobile phones in the market and now analysts feel that a major change may be coming in the next two years.

Investment bank UBS predicts that Apple could release a foldable iPhone by 2021. And according to the research obtained by CNBC, the said phone could look more like an iPad - something that may largely depend on the type of foldable display that the Cupertino company would use.

While seeing a foldable iPhone would be something, do take note that this research is treated more like speculation. Reliable analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo or Mark Gurman have yet to air their piece on a potential foldable mobile device, probably because it is something that is not even in the development stages. Also, the fact that the foldable display is still in the infancy stages further dampens the whole scenario. One can only look at the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

Samsung has been known to jump the gun on Apple but it looks like the Galaxy Fold needs more work. There were serious display issues and such led to the device being shelved for several months. Whether Apple jumps the gun or not, it is a delicate jump which consumers are likely to want once it is near perfect.

Apple did file patents for a folding phone and the past years suggested that Apple was working closely with LG on a potential foldable device. Unfortunately, nothing has prospered although that could change once the foldable display issue is perfected.

And assuming that Apple somehow finds a way to make a foldable iPhone work, a recent survey suggests that people are willing to shell out up to $600 more for it, Apple Insider reported. A lot of Apple loyalists have been wary of the price of the latest iPhones but it appears that for as long as there is new technology tied up (which in this case is the foldable display), coughing up more dough is something they won't mind. That is if the price seen by most now would remain in the years to come.
