After six years, Ubisoft has confirmed that “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game” is coming to current-gen consoles. Called “The Complete Edition,” the title will be priced at $15 and is coming for the holidays to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, and PC.
“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game – Complete Edition” will also include the Knives Chau and Wallace Wells add-on packs. The release was announced at the Ubisoft Forward event among several games coming from publisher Ubisoft.
Previously, the original game was only available digitally on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox One via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade respectively from 2010 to 2014.
The side-scrolling beat-’em’-up has been unavailable for purchase for six years, after the property’s license expired. If players opted out of purchasing and downloading the game during those years, there was no legal way to do so before now says Video Games Chronicle.
That release coincided with the 2010 film titled “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” written, produced, and directed by Edgar Wright and starring Michael Cera as the titular character who must battle the seven evil exes of his girlfriend, Ramona Flowers. The latter was played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
That cast included Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, and Brie Larson. The roots of “Scott Pilgrim” are steeped in comics. Canadian writer and artist Bryan Lee O’Malley created six volumes featuring the slacker and part-time musician Scott Pilgrim published by Oni Press between 2004 to 2010.
An extended trailer showed off the iconic pixel-based art style and chiptune music for “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game – Complete Edition.” You can play with up to four players locally or online, as well as compete in subspace mini-games like Dodgeball.
Loosely following the story of the graphic novels, up to four players can play as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Kim Pine or Stephen Stills (along with the unlockable character NegaScott and the downloadable characters Knives Chau and Wallace Wells), who must battle through seven levels in order to defeat Ramona's seven evil exes.
“Scott Pilgrim is back! Team up with friends to battle your way through waves of tough enemies to fight for love,” Ubisoft said. “Share health and coins, compete in mini-games like Dodgeball, and challenge each other to an epic-last-one-standing duel.”
