Foo Fighters Reschedule Concert After Confirmed COVID-19 Case
The Foo Fighters, one of the first bands to play large venues in the pandemic, is rescheduling its planned show for Saturday in Los Angeles following a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the organization.
On Tuesday, the band took to Twitter to announce that it would be postponing its upcoming show after learning about the coronavirus infection. The band did not disclose which members had tested positive.
“Despite having made every effort to follow CDC COVID protocols and local laws, there has been a confirmed COVID-19 case within the Foo Fighters organization,” the statement read.
“Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of the band, crew, and most of all the fans, Saturdays (sic) show at the Los Angeles Forum is being postponed to a later date. The new date will be announced shortly. Tickets for the July 17th date will be honored for the new date.”
The Foo Fighters aren’t the only organization in the music industry dealing with confirmed COVID-19 cases. A recent festival in the Netherlands that was attended by 20,000 people resulted in over 1,000 coronavirus infections.
In early July, the Verknipt outdoor festival was held in Utrecht and required a “test for entry.” Attendees needed to show a QR code that stated whether they were vaccinated, tested negative for COVID-19, or recently had a coronavirus infection.
Despite the precautions, 1,050 people who attended the music festival have tested positive for the coronavirus. However, officials are unsure if attendees were infected with the virus at the festival since people were allowed to get tested up to 40 hours before the event.
“We cannot say that all these people were infected at the festival itself; it could also be possible that they’ve been infected while traveling to the festival or in the evening before going to the festival or having an after-party,” Lennart van Trigt, a spokesperson for the Utrecht health board, said in a statement.
“So they’re (the cases) all linked to the festival, but we can’t 100% say they were infected at the festival.”
Festival officials expect the number of confirmed cases to rise over the next few days but intend on using the mistakes made as a lesson to take more precautions in the future.
