Footage Of Toddler Waving Handgun, Pulling Trigger Appears On Live TV; Father Arrested
An Indiana father has been arrested after a video of his toddler son brandishing a handgun and pulling its trigger appeared on live TV.
Shane Osborne, 45, was nabbed at Beech Meadow apartments located on Diplomat Court near Churchman and Emerson avenues in Beech Grove Saturday night. He was charged with child neglect, as per a police incident report obtained by WTHR.
Viewers across the U.S. saw the boy's live footage, as the city's police department was featured on the REELZ reality show "On Patrol: Live," which follows on-duty officers for three hours. The said program identified Osborne as the toddler's father.
The ring video from a neighbor's security camera was reportedly uploaded to a police server. In the footage, one can see the little boy, believed to be either 2 or 3 years old, in the entryway of an apartment waving a handgun back and forth. No one else is visible in the video which, at some point, shows the toddler pulling the gun's trigger.
Warning: This video might be disturbing to some viewers.
A neighbor called 911, informing dispatchers that she and her son saw the "child alone in the hallway outside their unit and that he had been holding a gun and pointing it at them," according to KCRA-TV.
It was not the first time the neighbors saw the toddler with a gun, host Dan Abrams and his team said, as per News Nation Now.
Responding officers spoke to the child's father, who denied possessing a gun. "I don't have a gun," the man said as police entered his residence, according to CNN. "I have never brought a gun into this house, if there is, it's my cousin's."
But as cops searched his home, they found a 9mm gun, which had 15 rounds in the magazine, under a television in the living room.
Police eventually took Osborne, handcuffed, out of the apartment. He is scheduled to appear in court for his initial hearing Tuesday afternoon.
"The fact that this is happening repeatedly. Right?" Abrams said further. "I mean, that's what makes this almost even worse is this, apparently, wasn't even a one-time thing."
Meanwhile, Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley said he was "mortified" about the incident.
"As with all of you, I'm mortified and what took place and I'm so thankful that no one was hurt, especially the young child. I appreciate the quick action taken by the Beech Grove Police Department to secure the small child and the gun in question," WTHR quoted Buckley as saying.
