- Jorge Messi blasts the report that his son is moving to PSG
- Messi is expected to sport usual self for Barca moving forward
The future of Lionel Messi remains unclear. Though things have not exactly been smooth between the Argentinian and FC Barcelona, the immediate focus is playing with the La Liga giants for now.
However, several reports a few days ago claimed that the 33-year-old is moving out next season to join Paris Saint-Germain.
An article by ESPN Argentina revealed on Twitter that PSG had already touched base with Messi about a potential transfer.
No less than Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, set the record straight on what the future holds for his son.
The elder Messi would respond via Instagram that this was entirely false and told the media outlet to “stop inventing fake news.”
It was in August where Messi had expressed his desire to leave Camp Nou. That issue has since settled. The only way that the football superstar was jumping ship is if his release clause was met. It is worth €700 million ($824 million) that no club right now can afford.
Messi is currently with the Argentina national team preparing for the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier against Paraguay. The Albiceleste hope to maintain their clean slate in the competition.
Before this, Messi was last seen with Barca over the weekend. He did not start for Barca, left out by Ronald Koeman from the starting lineup.
The Argentine star checked in at the half and made his presence felt. He scored two goals and an assist as FC Barcelona won over Betis, 5-2.
"Messi has shown me to be a person who wants to win things and continue to be the best, even though he has had his problems with the club," Koeman said.
It has been an uneasy ride for Messi with Barca even before Koeman arrived. But it appears both have sat down to discuss a certain matter.
Koeman narrates how he told Messi that he could not do anything about his past issues with Barca. It appears a lot of that has been ironed out.
Though not far from perfect, Koeman is confident that Messi will eventually get his act together.
