Ford Bronco Raptor 2022 Debuts: Details, Release Date, Horsepower, And More
Ford (F) has unveiled the all-new 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor. Its Raptor lineup also includes the F-150 Raptor in North America and Ranger Raptor for the global markets.
The Bronco Raptor – a street-legal SUV – is designed with off-road enthusiasts in mind as it will also compete in the grueling Ultra4 Racing series, Ford said.
“We had to build the Bronco Raptor – it’s our ultimate vehicle for hardcore off-road enthusiasts who demand something more,” Carl Widmann, Ford Performance chief engineer, said in a statement. “Like the Ultra4 desert race trucks, the ‘Raptor of SUVs’ conquers desert dunes at highway speeds and is equipped with competition-level off-road technology and hardware.”
Powering the 2022 Bronco Raptor is a 3.0 L twin-turbo EcoBoost engine that has a targeted power rating of more than 400 horsepower. The engine is equipped with specific Raptor-level tuning and is mated with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.
A dual exhaust system is also outfitted on the vehicle, featuring four selectable exhaust modes – normal, sport, quiet, and Baja.
Ford’s Performance team designed the Bronco Raptor by integrating increased suspension travel and track width to handle off-road terrain. The SUV has a fully-boxed, high-strength steel frame while added durability was built into the upper body, B-pillar crossbar, and C-pillar reinforcements.
The axles were also beefed up to include a semi-float Dana 50 Heavy-Duty AdvanTEK axle at the rear and added track width of an additional 8.6 inches at the front and rear for more sure footing.
Larger front and rear driveshafts were integrated for greater wheel torque, and the ground clearance was increased to a minimum of 13.1 inches. The 4x4 system also has three modes and a higher-capacity clutch design.
The suspension in the SUV was also enhanced to handle a variety of terrain conditions, while BFGoodrich 37-inch all-terrain tires round out the vehicle.
Towing on the vehicle is rated to 4,500 pounds, up 1,000 pounds over the base model. Also included on the Bronco Raptor are Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist, and Trail One-Pedal Driving.
Other details of the SUV include a signature two-piece rectangular grille, LED headlights, steel front bumper with tow hooks, LED fog lamps, off-road lamps, integrated hood vent, fender vents, and Raptor logos.
The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor SUV is available in Hot Pepper Red Metallic, Velocity Blue Metallic, Eruption Green Metallic, Shadow Black, Iconic Silver Metallic, Area 51, Cactus Gray, Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat, and Oxford White exterior colors, in addition to Ford Performance’s exclusive Code Orange exterior paint.
Ford will begin taking orders for the 2022 Bronco Raptor in March with vehicles set to arrive this summer.
As of Monday at 9:30 a.m. EST, shares of Ford were trading at $19.91, down 74 cents or 3.58%.
