Forgetfulness is not necessarily due to old age
If you are to go by the latest research you have no cause to blame your age for being forgetful. According to a study published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, old age is not the reason for becoming forgetful, instead it is the brain lesions as seen in Dementia which cause instances of memory loss in older people.
The researchers at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago say that this proves that there is more to normal memory aging as you age. If you remain healthy as you grow older there is hardly a decline in the memory functions. However, if you suffered from stroke, Lewy bodies or tangles then you are more prone to get forgetful as you grow older. Both Lewy bodies and stroke approximately doubled the rate of gradual memory decline, but tangles and Lewy bodies led to rapid memory decline.
By making the right connection with this research, the doctors feel that better treatment for delaying memory loss can be found.
