Forklift Falls And Crushes Man To Death In Tragic Workplace Accident
A man working at an industrial site in Australia was crushed to death by a forklift in western Sydney.
The man in his 30s was at work Monday morning when the machine tipped over and fell on top of him at around 6:30 a.m. First responders arrived at the worksite on Charles Street, St Marys, to find the man underneath the powered industrial truck. Police and paramedics tried their best efforts to save him, but the worker was eventually pronounced dead, Sky News reported.
“Three ambulance road crews responded to the scene where they found a man in a critical condition,” Caitlyn Murphy from NSW Ambulance told 7NEWS. “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the man passed away.”
The police said in a statement that they would prepare a report “for the information of the Coroner,” according to The Weekender. The victim works for a company called Custom Denning, which is known for building electrical buses.
Family members of the deceased were informed of the workplace accident and SafeWork NSW is investigating the same, a police spokeswoman told AAP, according to the Canberra Times.
SafeWork NSW investigators were at the scene of the incident Monday after taking over the investigation, according to The Weekender. A spokesperson said in a statement: "SafeWork is investigating a forklift incident this morning at a workplace in St Marys. The investigation is ongoing and further comment is not available at this time."
The victim’s coworkers were in shock following the incident and were allowed to go home for the day.
In an unrelated incident reported in March earlier this year, a landfill worker in Central Florida was using a portable toilet when a bulldozer ran over him. Aaron Henderson, 40, was working for CertiTemp in Polk County when the incident took place. The driver "began to turn his bulldozer and heard a loud crumble," the Polk County sheriff's office said. He went over to the portable toilet after realizing he had run over it. Henderson, a father of three, died at the scene of the “tragic, industrial accident," the sheriff's office said.
