Former 2NE1 Member Sandara Park Signs Exclusive Contract With Abyss Company
Sandara Park, who is also known by her stage name, Dara, has officially signed an exclusive contract with Abyss Company.
The entertainment company released a video Wednesday to welcome the former 2NE1 member into its family. Park is joining the ranks of other K-pop giants, such as Sunmi from Wonder Girls, Bambam of GOT7, Park Won and Urban Zakapa.
The video opens with an enigmatic shot focusing on the moving hand of an analog clock before showing a series of close-ups featuring Park's leather boots, part of her face and shoulder and the pocket clock she's holding. It then shows the singer looking through a camera's viewfinder before flipping an hourglass.
As a grandfather clock strikes 12, producing a midnight chime, Park's face is shown fully. She looks at the camera and then the words "Sandara Park X Abyss" flash on the screen.
Abyss Entertainment said it is preparing various activities for the 36-year-old star in an official statement shared with Soompi.
"We are happy to be part of the new beginning of Sandara Park, who has been loved both domestically and abroad for a long time. We will of course support her to the fullest so she can show the public her new sides and charms that she has yet to showcase, and she will carry out various activities for global fans as well," the entertainment company said.
Park started her entertainment career in the Philippines in 2004 after becoming a runner-up in "Star Circle Quest," which aired on ABS-CBN. She embarked on a successful career in music and TV afterward.
She returned to South Korea in 2007 and debuted as a member of girl group 2NE1 in 2009 under YG Entertainment. Before disbanding in 2016, 2NE1 was one of the most successful second-generation K-pop groups. It produced massive hits such as "Fire" and "I Don't Care," which also gained popularity internationally. Park then became busy with variety of shows and musicals. She also worked on beauty-related promotions.
In May, Park revealed she had left YG Entertainment after 17 years.
"More than anything, people, attachment, and the time I’ve spent with people are important to me. Saying goodbye is the most difficult thing to do. Nevertheless, I have made this big decision for the dream that I want as well as for those who have been waiting for me to achieve that dream," she wrote in an emotional Instagram post as per the outlet.
Park also thanked the company, which became her "home" when she debuted on the K-pop stage and where she stayed even after her group disbanded.
