Former 'Bachelor' Chris Soules To Pay Millions In Wrongful Death Lawsuit
Former ABC’s "The Bachelor" contestant Chris Soules, along with his parents, will pay $2.5 million as part of a wrongful death lawsuit settlement, according to documents obtained by weareiowa.com.
The agreement reads, “For the total consideration of $2,500,000.00, Nancy Mosher, Mathew Mosher, Michael Mosher, and the Estate of Kenneth Mother ('claimants') hereby release and forever discharge Christopher Soules, Gary S0ules, Linda Soules… from all liability whatsoever… arising out of an automobile accident that occurred on April 24, 2017 in Buchanan, Iowa.”
The settlement comes just over two years after the fatal 2017 incident resulted in the death of 66-year-old Kenneth Mosher. Soules rear-ended a tractor that Mosher was driving and, although recordings indicate the former "Bachelor" called authorities, he fled the scene before police arrived.
Originally, Soules’ was charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, which carries a $6,250 fine and a maximum prison sentence of two years. However, in November 2018, Soules plead guilty to the charge of leaving an accident in exchange for a sentence reduction.
Soules’ attorney at the time, Gina Messamer, told E! News, “The prosecutor has amended the charge down to a misdemeanor and Mr. Soules has entered a Conditional Guilty Plea to the misdemeanor charge. This misdemeanor charge carries a penalty ranging between a deferred judgment and no jail time up to two years' incarceration…”
The settlement agreement will likely be a relief for Soules, whose current attorney, Alfredo Parrish, stated in an interview captured by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier on Tuesday, “He's been pretty stressed out by this whole thing, and he was clearly stressed out.”
Soules starred as the Season 19 lead of "The Bachelor" on ABC in 2015.
