Kazakhmys PLC, the largest copper producer in Kazakhstan names Clinton Dines, former CEO of BHP Billiton China, as an additional independent non-executive director.

with effect from 1 October 2009., Chinese Caijing reported on Thursday.

Dines told Caijing that he will serve mainly as a consultant for seniors of Kazakhmys, one of the leading copper producers in the world.

The company is trading with China and is willing to have more co-ops in the future, Dines said.

He (Dines) brings exceptional knowledge of China combined with experience of the resources industry (to Kazakhmys),Kazakhmys' Chairman Vladimir Kim said. Given the importance of China in our customer base, this will be of great value as we continue to work with our customers to grow our business and deliver our growth projects.

Dines, former CEO of the world's largest mining company, left his job recently after taking the helm of BHP's China business for 21 years. He was mainly responsible for the company's administrative affairs in China and its relationship with the government
