Bella Thorne, who rose to fame starring alongside Zendaya on Disney’s “Shake It Up” in 2010, is no stranger to being in the center of controversy.

On Wednesday, the actress took to her Instagram to share pictures of her Halloween makeup. Thorne chose a look that showed her sporting a bruised eye, a bloody cut up lip, and other facial bruises, leaving many fans upset and confused, Fox News reported.

Fans were quick to think that Thorne had actually been beaten up before taking the time to read her caption that said: “Hire me for you Halloween makeup I got u boo”.

Many people went straight to her comments to call her "insensitive" and pointed out that this look could be triggering to victims of domestic abuse.

“As much as I respect you as an artist, this is a little insensitive and disturbing to those who have suffered abuse before. I expected more of you,” one fan wrote.

“Of all the Halloween ideas out there, you had to pick one that brings horrific nightmares to women who have been physically, mentally & emotionally abused. As a victim of domestic violence, I find this to be so tasteless & inconsiderate,” another fan said.

“Umm physical abuse is not a fun Halloween costume. I thought you out of everyone would know that,” someone else said referring to the actresses past of opening up about child abuse which she wrote about in her book “The Life of a Wannabe Mogul: Mental Disarray."

The comments weren’t all negative, though. Many fans also defended the star by stating the fact that it was Halloween and crediting her makeup skills.

“Don’t let any haters shame you for doing this makeup,” someone said.

“Lots of people do Halloween makeup like they've been in a fight or are running from Jason or something. People are just trying to stir up trouble,” another person stated.

Fans never got to see what the costume was intended to be, assuming that Thorne was just experimenting with her makeup abilities.
