Controversy regarding the “toxic” working environment behind “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” is getting darker with each passing day. A former producer for the show has come out to talk about the experience she had while working on the talk show and claimed that Ed Glavin was like Ellen's “barking dog.”
Speaking in an interview with The Wrap, Hedda Muskat, who worked on the show when it was still in development, recalled an incident where Glavin went berserk and screamed at one of the crew members during a staff meeting.
Muskat noted that Glavin’s face turned absolutely “red” and the whole office was stunned after the entire episode. Muskat also revealed that she waited for Ellen to come and say something to the executive producer but what happened afterward left her speechless.
The former producer claimed that the talk show host did nothing for the staff and giggled after knowing that Glavin screamed at one of the workers. According to Muskat, the whole office at the time realized that Glavin would be Ellen’s "dog" from now on.
“She crossed her legs up on the chair and she said, ‘Well, I guess every production needs their dog. And from then we knew. Ed was going to be the barking dog – her dog. You could just see everybody’s faces go stiff. We are professionals; we are adults. We don’t need a dog to get us to do our jobs. She was the only one giggling,” Muskat told the publication.
The former member of the show also made it clear that Ellen’s apology will not make any difference because “she is who she is.”
During the discussion, the Daytime Emmy Award winner also shared that she had “never” been around a “toxic host” before.
Muskat’s comments come a few weeks after several former employees came forward and spoke about the pernicious workplace culture on the show. The complaints prompted Warner Bros. to start an investigation.
DeGeneres came forward with an apology and noted that she always wanted everyone to be treated with respect. However, she admitted that something “changed” along the way. She also expressed “compassion” for all those who opened up and disclosed how “unfairly” they were treated by some people.
Meanwhile, a source recently told The Hollywood Reporter that Glavin will be fired from the show really soon.
