Former Ohio Special Education Teacher Jailed For Having Sex With 14-Year-Old Student

A former Ohio teacher has been sentenced to four years imprisonment for engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old student.

Brooke Wright, a former special education teacher and administrator in Delaware County, was suspended in August 2019 after the school officials were informed about the allegations against her. The student, who had behavioral issues, then told the investigators that the relationship started in March 2019. Investigation revealed that the two had indulged in sexual activities in multiple locations over the next six months.

The accused was charged in November 2019 with two counts each of sexual battery and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. She was sentenced to imprisonment on Thursday. The sentence requires her to register as a sex offer every 90 days for life. She has also been asked to surrender her teacher's license, reported The Columbus Dispatch.

During the trial, the prosecutor accused Wright of taking advantage of her position and the vulnerability of the victim.

Deputy Superintendent Mike Trego of Educational Service Center of Central Ohio issued a statement saying that supporting students is their top priority.

"The criminal charges filed against our former employee Brooke Wright disgust everyone in our organization. Her alleged actions represent a betrayal of the trust that students and parents place in us every day. When we first learned of these allegations two months ago, we immediately removed her from school property and began cooperating with the investigation into her actions. We’ve offered support and counseling to all affected students and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement," Trego said.

The incident comes months after a former Maryland teacher was charged with sexual solicitation for allegedly paying a student for sex. Jaron Darden, a teacher at Edgewood Middle School, took a photograph of the victim's body part and uploaded it on the "fetish social media account" he was handling.

Darden also paid the victim for sex, but instead of performing the act, she alerted the authorities. The accused was then taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses including, sexual solicitation of a minor, prostitution and human trafficking of a minor.
