FaceApp is the latest social media craze! Celebrities worldwide had posted several pictures using the said app, and though they may seem to find it amusing, a former member of the boy band One Direction, Louis Tomlinson, tweeted that he got bored off.

Tomlinson, who tweeted the same about the FaceApp at around 3 A.M., currently has more than 19,000 retweets and more than 85,000 likes.

Fans of the English singer took notice of his post, which got a lot of candid replies. See some replies down here.

There was even one fan who told Tomlinson that the FaceApp will be used against him if this particular fan doesn’t get followed back by the “Back To You” singer. Look how it went.

Other celebrities like Jonas Brothers, Dwayne Wade and Drake had already uploaded older pictures of them in social media using the FaceApp. If you go to Instagram, just simply type #faceapp in the search bar and it will show you a page full of aged people.

Just as when everyone is making the most out of FaceApp, a news came out that it could’ve been uploading more personal data. For safety precaution, the Democratic National Committee sent an alert, on Wednesday, advising the presidential campaign staff members to delete the app, New York Times reported.

FaceApp, which can be downloaded from Android and IOs for free, was created by Wireless Lab of St. Petersburg, Russia. Hence, the above-said campaign to have it uninstalled from mobile phones.

DNC and Democratic campaigns were targeted by Russian hackers in 2016, WhoTv reported. Lesson was learned in order not to repeat the same mistakes, DNC invested in cyber security.

The removal of FaceApp from DNC staff’s phone was reportedly recommended by DNC chief security officer, Bob Lord.

In response to the ongoing issue, FaceApp developers responded by explaining that most accessed images when the app is being used were deleted from the servers within 48 hours, TechCrunch reported.

They also clarified in the letter that they sent to TechCrunch that they don’t sell or share user data with any third parties. Furthermore, FaceApp offers the option wherein you can use the app without logging in.

In addition, they made mention that even if the core of the company is located in Russia, the user data are not transferred to them. They also accept request from users to remove all their data from the FaceApp server.

Everyone is advised to check first the terms of service not just of FaceApp but also the other apps.

Just be on the safe side. You won’t lose anything from being careful.
